You’ve got to love the AMI…
I’ve just received a letter from the Australian Marketing Institute calling for nominations to the State Council.
Should I or shouldn’t I nominate myself?
The last time I was elected to the NSW State Council, I was not allowed to take my seat at the table.
Why you may ask?
Well…the good old dudes on the AMI’s NSW Council, supported by the Institutes CEO and a few Directors, got together and decided to ignore the Institutes constitution to stop marketers living outside Sydney being elected. Especially regional marketer’s.
I’d love to find out how long this has been going on!!!
If anyone is interested, I’ve attached the AMI’s Constitution – Download ami_constitution_14_oct_03.pdf
For the people and marketer’s who are interested, here are a couple of emails I received from the Institutes CEO congratulating me on my election, then an email sent by a Institute Director and NSW Councilor after there secret meeting telling me nicely, that I was not needed.
Have a good read
Gordon
Further to your nomination to be a state councilor, I wish to advise that you have been elected to the NSW State Council.
Your election to the council was automatic because nominations did not exceed vacancies. The term of the new state council commences on 14 September, and you will be contacted shortly in regard to the first meeting.
Please accept my congratulations on your appointment. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me on 02 8256 1650.
Regards
Mark

The next email…I received after the first NSW council meeting (I was not invited):
Dear Gordon
Thank you for applying to the AMI NSW Council for 2005. Our strategic focus calls for a wide representation from the corporate and academic environment including one representative from the Hunter Region, currently these areas are covered.
I understand that this may come as a surprise to you, but as the 2005 AMI Strategy calls for one representative from the Hunter region (there is currently representation from the Hunter Region on the NSW Council), the AMI feels this position is currently filled and serviced.
The AMI appreciates your past service and has not reached this conclusion lightly. We therefore request that you relinquish your position in accordance with our representative structure and objectives.
We thank you wholeheartedly for all your previous efforts and involvement.

I don’t think this in the constitution. What is also not in the constitution was the threating phone call I received after I refused to with draw my nomination.
Nice on Mr President (NSW). This brave man still does not attend any Institute events in Newcastle.
In fact, as the State Council nominates Directors to the full AMI board, are members of the NSW council and some AMI Directors at risk of failing their legal obligations?
