Newcastle team makes big global splash
I don’t want to give the boys at Newism the marketing kiss of death, but their latest web site is brilliant.
Newism partnered with the Email Standards Project and Campaign Monitor to develop & launch Fixoutlook.org project. An online project dedicated to sending a message to Microsoft over Outlook 2010’s poor display capabilities.
Since its launch, the Fixoutlook.org message has been picked up by a number of global media agencies & tech sites such as pcmag.com Reuters PC World ZD Net UK. At one point it was the leading Trend Topic on Twitter.
Microsoft quickly got the message forcing them to publish a response defending position.
I’m a big fan of any Newcastle based company causing trouble on the world stage – I love it! It’s a job well done, but don’t just believe me, visit Fixoutlook.org.
Technorati claims to be not out
Has anyone else had problems trying to claim a blog on Technorati lately? Well, it’s stuffed. So is my Adage Power 150 ranking & I thought it was me or my blog!
However, after weeks of failed attempts & firing off tech support tickets with no response. I finally noticed a small announcement on Technorati’s site that tells me its blog claiming feature has been disabled while they finalize claiming upgrades.
They say ETA is for Wednesday 24th June 2009.
Jennifer McLean, VP of Marketing at Technorati blogged this statement:
It’s been a tumultuous month. For us – and unfortunately for you.
We’re sorry for the frustration and the less than great service. While not an excuse, here is the reason:
We changed co-location facilities. We, well the four members of our ops team, moved 1,000 servers and ALL of our real-time search infrastructure. Things are now returning to normal, although slower than we would have liked.
Looking forward:
We haven’t lost any data – so when things are back to normal your link counts and authority will be exactly where they should be.
We’ll follow up in more detail so you have information on exactly which services have been affected and how, and when they’ll be completely functional again.
Jen, we all feel your pain and so does my Adage Power 150 Ranking. So, from the bottom of my ranking, I hope you can work your magic and get it UP:)
Note: I've been claimed - yippee!

Advertising Agencies make my logo bigger
This video is so near the truth – it isn’t funny! I’m wrong, it’s still funny. But, I hope those business people & marketers that want their logo’s bigger or want star bursts understand this video is satire.
And to all those designers & creatives who allow this to happen or don’t understand its WRONG – ya idiots.
Chris Anderson’s book ‘The Long Tail’ is a must read

I’VE TALKED about it. I’ve read articles about it. I’ve even quoted from it. But now, I’ve read it. And guess what? Chris Anderson has written an astonishing book which explores the future of business. He has truly opened my eyes to the possibilities & opportunities of niche markets.
Chris Anderson excellent book explains how businesses which have mainly a digitally driven distribution and inventory business model can generate healthy profits out of selling small volumes of hard to find things to lots of people i.e. Amazon & iTunes. Rather than selling large volumes of a reduced number of popular items i.e. Wal-Mart.
Like Al Ries & Jack Trout’s book Positioning, I believe the The Long Tail is an important piece of marketing philosophy that belongs in the lecture theatre’s of our Universities.
If taught well & if you throw in a few pictures, even accountants and lawyers may overtime get to understand these principles.
Rupert on the future of printed media
IT’S A SHAME, but whenever people mention journalism or citizen journalism it incites heated passion. For that reason, Rupert Murdoch’s recent predictions that newspapers will be completely digitalised within two to three years made me want to speak out.
I like reading printed newspapers. What’s more I like reading free online blogs and news sites. What today’s media mogul like Rupert forget is that the world has changed. It’s a place where one size doesn’t fit all – especially in the case of news media.
Thinking of advertising in YellowPages?
Yellow or Google? Is a very good question posed by Media Hunter on Sticky Advertising’s GetSticky website.
Media Hunter asks – if you had 30 seconds to decide and you were offered the option of having the first advert in your category of Yellow Pages or first result on Google which would you choose?
Iggy, a short thank you
RIGHT NOW, how you connect with people determines our place in society and buiness. That was Iggy Pintado’s key message at the Hunter AMI Group’s “Using Media and Online Networking to Connect with Customers” seminar.
I think Iggy struck a cord with many of the attendees that have previously seen social media as a threat and not as an opportunity. You could see the heads nod when he said ” Right now. Your customers are talking about you, your brand and your products online.”
I enjoyed Iggy’s presentation and I think it was well received by the others in the room. So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Iggy for making the long trip up the F3 and for his wisdom.
